Junior Colin Sahlman of Newbury Park Athletic Club in California won the boys unattached/club sweepstakes 5-kilometer race in 14:53.67 at the 14th annual Desert Twilight Festival at The Links at Queen Creek in San Tan Valley, Arizona. Sahlman helped Newbury Park, the reigning Nike Cross Nationals champion, placed five scorers in the top nine to produce a 17-59 victory over the Menlo iGreyhounds Track Club, which included athletes from Bellarmine College Prep, Monta Vista, Evergreen Valley and Menlo School in Northern California.
