Newbury Park captured its first CIF Division 2 girls state title with an 82-161 victory over St. Francis Mountain View at Woodward Park in Fresno. The Panthers placed all five scorers in the top 40 to secure the championship one year after placing 10th in the Southern Section Division 2 final. Sophomore Sam McDonnell finished ninth, covering the 5-kilometer course in 17:56.4. Senior Hailey Golmon took 11th in 17:57.7, junior Fiona Hawkins was 12th in 17:58.5, freshman Ailish Hawkins secured 36th in 18:27.4 and senior Gretchen Slattum grabbed 40th in 18:31.9 for Newbury Park, which also had senior Archana Mohandas in 53rd in 18:47.7 and freshman Hannah Round in 81st in 19:01.9. The Panthers clocked 90:51.9, becoming the seventh girls program in state history to run under 91 minutes at Woodward Park.
