Newbury Park CA won its first Division 2 girls team title in program history at the CIF Southern Section Championships in Riverside, Calif. The Panthers placed six athletes in the top 25 to prevail by a 65-116 margin over three-time champion Claremont. Sam McDonnell covered the 3-mile Riverside course in 17:19.1 to place eighth, Hailey Golmon was 13th in 17:27.3, Archana Mohandas (17:29) and Fiona Hawkins (17:34.2) were 15th and 16th, with Gretchen Slattum placing 23rd in 17:55.4 for Newbury Park, which also had Ailish Hawkins (18:02.6) securing 25th and Hannah Round (18:24.7) finishing 45th.
